Stapelia hirsuta     10/24/21

I had the opinion for many years that Stapelias need to be huge plants to flower. Wrong. This plant came from a single cutting, maybe 3" (8 cm) long that I took early spring in 2021 from a big plant. This is a nice flower without a jungle of stems. Plus, I can't smell it. Doris is not surprised. She says I can't smell anything any more. In the old days an organic chemist's sense of smell might keep him alive. (Very few women organic chemists in the past; not too many today.) I kind of miss the stink of Stapelias. No two species smell the same. I like the smell. All of them.
