Yes, this is identical to Echinopsis leucantha, the first picture in this gallery. Both names are in use. "Leucantha" means "white spines" and "melanopotamicum means "Black River." I assume that someone found the plant near a river of that name in Southern Argentina. The spination of the plant is very attractive. The black young spines which fade to gray are an interesting contrast.   (31/32)
