Haageocereus sp.    8/8/21
The typical Haageocereus flowers open late afternoon on day 1 and close before noon on day 2, so they're properly described as ephemeral. I think that I may be the only person in New Mexico who has a bunch of flowering Haageocereus plants. I started them about 40 years ago, as usual, from seeds, and I've been taking care of them ever since. They are all (six of them) 5 - 6 feet tall (1.5 - 1.8 m tall). The peculiarity is that I can't ever remember any two of them being in flower on the same day. (I may be misremembering; 40 years is a long time.) I've never had the chance to make seeds from them because they never flower together. They have all year to do it. That is, the sporadic flowering isn't seasonal. It continues in my cold greenhouse (40 F, 5 C at night) all winter. Even though they may not be the same species, or maybe they are all the same species, in spite of minimal different flower colors and sizes, I would have liked to at least try making seeds. I'm soon 77. I'm running out of time.   (091/112)
