Melocactus dawsonii MG974.3     8/11/20
This is really exciting. I've never managed to grow any members of the genus over the past many years, and now I have several of several species which look healthy. That center growth, containing maybe the least worth-looking-at flowers in all of cactus land. is a true "cephalium." The books claim that once this cephalium forms, the body of the plant never grows any more. All growth is directed to the cephalium. I'll keep you posted over the coming years. The pot is 2.5" (7 cm) on a side. This plant will be in a much bigger pot when you see it again next year.   (69/72)
