Ferocactus hamatacanthus     8/8/19
The most cold-tolerant of the Ferocactus genus. It's native to trans-Pecos Texas, particularly in Big Bend National Park. Ralph Peters has some in his front yard in Albuquerque. They've been doing fine for many years. Ralph says 2 out of 3 yard plants died from a long stretch of -15F or -26C winter weather in Feb. 2011. My seed-grown (potted) plant is over 40 years old and is getting very hard to move. I think that it weighs more than 100 lb (~40 kg).   (08/40)
