The earlier state of flowering of this plant is in photo 16. This species grows at over 11,000 feet (“3500 m”) in Peru. Peru lies near the equator, but 3500 meters anywhere can get cold at night. I think this species can be grown without protection in Albuquerque. I left some outside this past winter here, but since there was no real winter, it doesn’t count for hardiness data. (31/40)
