Cleistocactus tarijensis     11/1/16
This is another cactus lesson. The two stems are growing out of a basal lump. The lump was the base of very tall (5’; 1.5 m) plants last year. They got too rangy, so I cut them down to the base last August (2015), and what you see is a one year growth off the base. I gave the cuttings to any club members who wanted them. The plants are curling away from south to north. Why is a complete mystery to me. They were outside until a few days ago. Cleistocacti can tolerate a fair amount of frost.   (21/32)
